Internet@Schools East 2006
I just got back from attending the Computers in Libraries Conference in Washington, D.C. The sessions were motivating and informative. I learned about virtual school libraries, podcasting, using blogs as a communication tool with students, RSS feeds and exactly what a wiki is! Excellent speakers abounded, especially keynote speaker, Joyce Valenza. I also enjoyed hearing Alice Yucht, Marjorie Pappas and Johanna Riddle. The strand for school library media specialists was called Internet@Schools. I recommend this conference for anyone interested in information literacy.

I am excited about the prospects of a blog from MCPS media specialists - a group that has always been on the cutting edge of technology use for instruction.

After attending the conference last week "Multimedia in Schools".
The importance for blogging was emphasized for both professional communication and instruction. Some important uses for blogs that I read about on the blog "WANDERINGS":
1. Sharing Problems & Seeking Solutions
2. Gathering Information & Resources for further research.
3. Using a Blog as Library Newsletter.
4. Using a Blog a Library "Webpage"
5. Using a Blog as a way to generate discussion and contributions from others of like interests
6. Blogs in classrooms?....Let the kids show you why!!!
-Students pay attention to blogs.
7. A place to store personal research.
8. A Blog is a place to share with the school community. (isn't that our initiative for next year?)
9. A Blog is a place to model social networking behavior for colleagues and students.
10. A Blog is needed because as the world EVOLVES our teaching models and practices need to be discussed and re-evaluated.

At last Friday's Middle School Collection Development meeting, I invited any interested media specialists to join our blog list and contribute to adding instructional ways of using blogs to our site. Although we had an enthusiastic response, I have only heard specifically from one media specialist. We need your input!
