LMS Knowledge Brokers

Welcome to the blog of LMS Knowledge Brokers. We are a group of school library media specialists who want to use this blog to discuss information literacy. Our goal is to engage students in a format that is compatible with how they receive and dispense information today. We invite any school library media specialist or colleague to post a comment.

Updates on Instructional Blogging

It has been a while since I added to the Knowledge Brokers Blog. A lot has been happening in regard to preparing for a safe and secure way to use blogs for instruction in MCPS. I have been involved in a policies and procedures work group for studying the use of blogs in the classroom and for professional development. We have been participating in a WIKI that allows us to communicate about and enhance our work. So far, we have come up with parameters for appropriate use, Bloggingh use cases, request forms, parent permission forms, Blogging FAQ's, and workgroup news. Alot of interest has been generated on using blogs and we hope our participants will be ready to blog when we come up with the steps for using blogs for instructional purposes on the MCPS server.

The August 17 Professional Development Day for School Library Media Specialists, Assistants and MSTs provided break out sessions regarding blogging, podcasting and using RSS feeds. Hopefully, the use of these technologies will open the door to the 21st Century Library and allow us to serve our students 24/7.
